Mrs. Smith thought I was a slightly disturbed kid after reading this one.
It was the last day of school before summer break at Blevins Junior High. Students and teachers were impatiently waiting for school to end, all planing on what to do during the vacation. Smith, which was trying to teach English to her disobedient 7th grade class, was especially excited about the vacation, since she was really needing a nice long vacation after weeks of teaching.
After many boring hours it was finally 2:25 PM, only five minutes remained for the school day to end. The students stared at their watches, counting the seconds as they passed. Those who did not have a watch bugged other people periodically for an update on the current time. Soon the bell rang, people rushed out the doors and in seconds they all where outside enjoying the vacation that had just begun. Smith was very tired, so she went home and went to sleep. Smith had a great sleep, not having to worry about classes the next day. It was soon morning the next day and the sun came through the window, shining directly on Smith's face. She woke up irritated by the light and went to have breakfast. Since it was the vacations, Smith decided to take a long car trip to some different place. She got ready for the trip, she packed some snacks, a portable TV set, some blankets and pillows, and all the other essential stuff necessary to survive in any kind of emergency. The car was stuffed. As she was getting into the car she noticed that the back tire was flat. Unfortunately, since the spare tire was under all the stuff she had packed, she had to remove everything from the luggage compartment to get it. What a great way to start the vacations she thought to herself. Finally after changing the tire and packing the car all over again she was finally ready to begin her trip. She got into the car, started the engine, and soon she was driving down the streets. She drove into the highway that would take her to the next city. After many miles down the boring highway she finally arrived at a small town that she never knew existed. The town was simply called "Small City" and had a large population of 5 people. She looked around and decided that the city was not worth stopping to looking at, so, she continued down the highway for many miles until she decided to have a snack at another much larger city. She walked into a restaurant and ordered a small pizza. After waiting half an hour the pizza was finally served. Smith was surprized when she found out that the pizza was a really, really small pizza measuring 5 inches across. After eating the small pizza and paying a huge price she walked out of the restaurant still a bit hungry. Since it was getting late Smith decided to look for a hotel. She finally found one hotel after looking all over the city, the place was a junk, but it was the only one in the city so she had to stay in it. She walked into the hotel and a fat man was sitting behind the counter watching a football game on a old black and white TV.
"May I have a room" Smith asked.
"$50 for one room" answered the fat man right after burping unpolitely.
Smith dug into her pockets to get the money and then paid him. While taking the money the fat man replied "You can use room 12, our best one".
Smith, a bit puzzled asked "Don't I get a key?"
"Nope" he answered.
Smith, now even more puzzled because she didn't get the key, walked down the halls searching for room 12. She found it, it was the last room of the hall. The door was old, with many dents on it as if someone had kicked it various times. She reached out to grab the rusty door knob, but as soon as she touched it the door fell backwards into the room. She walked over the door into the small room. It was a terrible looking room, there was one bed, one broken chair and there was a bullet hole on the glass. An ugly, dirty, blood stained blanket was on the bed along with an also blood stained pillow. Since Smith had nowhere else to sleep she decided to stay there anyway. She lifted the door back into place and laid the broken chair against it to keep someone from opening it. Smith moved the blood stained blanket and pillow away to a corner of the room replacing it with her own clean blankets and pillows she had brought. She sat down on the bed and started to wonder who was murdered in the room and who did it. She also wondered why her vacations always turn out to be so bad.
She turned off the light, almost electrocuting herself on the broken switch, and then she went to sleep on the lumpy bed. Suddenly, in the middle of the night, Smith was awakened by the noise of someone trying to open the door by forcefully kicking it. She was in panic. Since she knew that it could be the same guy that murdered the last person, she ran towards the window and tried to open it; it was her only way out. As she was unsuccessfully trying to open the jammed window, the door suddenly burst open. Smith gave out a hysterical yell.
"Hey, what are you screaming about you nut?!?" the fat man said surprized "I just came to warn you to close your door, there are lots of crazy people around here. Beware." The fat man left without any further reply.
Smith, which almost had a heart attack, sat down on the bed trying to calm herself. Later when she was more calm, she closed the door again, replacing the now more broken chair back against the door, closing it tightly. She returned to bed, trying to fall asleep after all the terrible things that had happened that day.
Smith was awakened by a large noise outside, she clumsily walked to the window to see what was going on. She peeked out and saw the cause of all the pandemonium, it was an large truck that has crushed a red sports car into a sheet of red aluminum foil. Smith was relieved to know that there were people so close by who were having days worst than hers.
She got her stuff, placed the old bloody blankets and pillow back on the bed, and left the room. She walked back to the counter where the fat man was, again, watching football, but this time consuming greasy and moldy potato chips.
"I would like to check out now" Smith said to the fat man.
"Why? Didn't you enjoy the room?" the fat man asked, with potato chip fragments falling from his mouth, "Was it because of the ketchup stains on the blankets? Why leave now?"
"Ketchup stains?" Smith asked "I thought someone was murdered!!!".
"Murder?!? HA!!! HA!!! That's the funniest thing I heard in years!!!" the fat man said stuffing his mouth with a handful of chips.
"Anyway, I must go now." confused Smith said.
"I Hope you come back soon!!!" he said happily.
Smith was very glad to leave the crazy hotel. She got into her car and drove back to the highway, this time driving back to her house. When she arrived she decided never to go out on stupid car trips again and to never check in to bad hotels again.
